‘Lucy’ Beats Out ‘Hercules’ at the Weekend Box Office!
Scarlett Johansson‘s Lucy opened to a whopping $44 million this weekend, topping the box office!
According to THR, the film is the latest female-led movie to perform really well at the summer box office, after Maleficent and The Fault in Our Stars.
Coming in at No. 2 was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s epic film Hercules, which took in $29 million for its first weekend.
Taking the third spot was Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, starring Andy Serkis, Keri Russell, and more, which brought in an additional $16.4 million, for a domestic total of $172.1 million so far.
Rounding out the top five were the horror flick The Purge: Anarchy and the animated sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue, bringing in $9.9 million and $9.3 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, at the specialty box office, the spy thriller A Most Wanted Man, starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman opposite Rachel McAdams, opened to an impressive $2.7 million in only 361 theaters.
Woody Allen‘s Magic in the Moonlight, starring Colin Firth and Emma Stone, opened to a decent $425,730 from 17 theaters for a location average of $25,043.
