Why was Jabrill Peppers arrested?
Jabrill Peppers’ arrest was confirmed by the Braintree police on Monday, after the NFL veteran pleaded not guilty to multiple assault and drug possession charges.
According to the involved officials, the incident leading to Peppers’ apprehension occurred around 4 AM on Saturday. He was reportedly involved in a physical disagreement with a female stranger. As per the statements provided by the woman in question, he had allegedly assaulted her prior to the police’s arrival. (via CBS News) Peppers reportedly struck the woman, removed her clothing, and choked her at least six times before pushing her off the stairs.
Later, the police officials were greeted by a half-clad Peppers, who remarked, “I know what is going on,” to explain his unconventional state. The New Jersey-born sportsman was then taken into custody without incident. Upon further investigation, the authorities discovered a white substance in his wallet, which was later identified as cocaine.
As such, Jabrill Peppers was charged with multiple violations, arrested, and subsequently brought to the Quincy District Court. At the hearing, the New England Patriots safety denied all wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was ultimately released on a hefty $2,500 bail. Following the debacle, the Patriots released an official statement acknowledging the dire condition of the situation.
“We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time,” the statement read. Head coach Jerod Mayo also echoed his side’s sentiments and added they are currently gathering more information regarding the matter.
At the time of writing, Jabrill Peppers remains available for selection despite his earlier arrest. The next hearing on his case is scheduled to take place on November 22 of this year.
