Here’s What Leilani Simon, The Georgia Mother, Allegedly Did To Her 1-Year-Old Son Quinton Simon
According to Newsweek, on the morning of October 5, 2022, Leilani called the police and reported that her 20-month-old son was missing from his playpen in their home.
“We’re just hoping that he’s in somebody’s house and they’re feeding him and maybe they wanted a baby or couldn’t have a baby,” Leilani reportedly told reporters amid her son’s disappearance, per PEOPLE. “Maybe they thought they were his savior. That’s our best hope at this point.”
Upon investigation, Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley “quickly identified” Leilani as the case’s primary suspect. Additionally, authorities reportedly believed the 1-year-old was deceased.
As the investigation continued, authorities were reportedly sifted “through a nearby landfill.” After a month, they reportedly discovered human remains at the site. Ultimately, DNA testing confirmed the remains to be of Quinton Simon. According to PEOPLE, authorities believed Leilani placed her son’s body in a “dumpster.” The dumpster was reportedly picked up “by regular means of disposal” and dumped at the landfill.
Subsequently, Leilani was reportedly hit with 19 charges, including “malice murder, felony murder, concealing the death of another and making false statements.”
More Details On Leilani Simon’s Case & Ongoing Trial
Newsweek reports that Leilani has pled not guilty to all of her charges. Additionally, her trial began with prosecutors’ opening statements on Monday, October 14.
Prosecutor Tim Dean reportedly asserted that Leilani admitted her drug use during a 2022 interview with police. During the interview, Leilani alleged she had “blacked out” and couldn’t recall her son’s death.
“I will never touch cocaine again. I become angry and impulsive when I’m on it,” Leilani Simon reportedly told police in 2022.
Furthermore, during opening statements, Dean reportedly noted to the court that Leilani allegedly used substances such as “cocaine and Percocet.”
“She killed him, her own son, got in her car with his body, drove to a dumpster, and threw him away like a piece of trash,” the prosecutor stated.
According to Newsweek, it appears to remain unclear how Leilani allegedly killed her son. This is reportedly because the 1-year-old’s remains were “too decomposed for a definitive cause of death.” Additionally, Leilani’s defense attorney, Robert Persse, reportedly argued that the prosecution’s case lacks evidence.
“The core conclusion is that Leilani Maree Simon murdered her child. The evidence will simply not support that bold conclusion,” Persse reportedly told the court.
The outlet adds that a responding officer has since taken the stand and noted Leilani’s behavior during the search for her son to be peculiar. Newsweek reports that Leilani’s trial will remain ongoing as additional witnesses are expected to take the stand in the upcoming days.

A Mother In Maryland Was Recently Arrested For Allegedly Shooting Her Daughter
In September, a mother in Maryland made headlines for her alleged actions toward her child. As The Shade Room previously reported, Talecka Brown was accused of shooting her 13-year-old daughter on September 23. The pair had reportedly gotten into an argument, and Brown allegedly instructed her daughter to lie to first responders about what had occurred.
The daughter told the truth to the police, and Brown was reportedly arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder. Subsequently, audio recorded from one of Brown’s phone calls reportedly showed her implying that her case would disappear if her daughter did not show up in court.
