Jonathan did in fact sing his parts in Wicked!
He opened up about the experience in an interview with ComicBook, saying that he “completely disassociated” while singing on set.
“You train really, really hard, obviously, knowing that Ari and Cynthia, two of the best vocalists we have were going to be there,” he explained, noting that it left him with nerves. “I knew that. I just had to go for gold and it was amazing. It was amazing. I had a facelift from the g-force of the sheer heft of their vocal prowess.”
Jonathan credited Ariana‘s vocal coach Eric Vetro for helping him prepare for the role over Zoom.
Wicked: Part One premieres in theaters on November 22.
