Janne Puhakka, the first openly gay hockey player in Finland, has tragically died at the young age of 29.
The former professional hockey player was allegedly murdered by his estranged husband, just weeks after ending their relationship.

Puhakka’s estranged 66-year-old husband Rolf Nordmo was confirmed as the suspect in the murder and authorities have confirmed that a man of that age was arrested at the scene of the crime.
People reports that Police of Finland said that “police have now questioned the man suspected of committing a homicide in Espoo’s Henttaa on October 13th” and alleged that “the suspect has told that he shot the victim with a shotgun and caused the victim’s death. It was revealed in the interrogation that the motive for the crime was the ending of the relationship between the victim and the suspect.”
The couple started dating in 2014 when Puhakka was just 19.
Puhakka is currently appearing in the Finnish version of the reality show The Traitors and the season finale of the show has been indefinitely postponed due to the tragic death. He remained an active participant leading into the finale.
