Yahoo And NBC Sports Partner On Event Coverage
Yahoo and NBC Sports Group are teaming in a content and promotional deal combining Yahoo Sports original reporting, coverage of big events and other content with NBC Sports Group’s expanding digital assets. Deal includes significant television promotion and integration. Yahoo Sports and NBC Sports Group will maintain separate sites and editorial control but they will collaborate on premium sports news and events coverage both online and on TV broadcasts. Yahoo Sports products will be included in the NBC Sports Groups digital assets.
From the announcement, features of the deal include:
- Editorial Depth: The combined talent roster of Yahoo! Sports and NBC Sports features a deep bench of award-winning reporters and commentators, such as NBCs Bob Costas and Mike Florio; Yahoo! Sports Dan Wetzel and Adrian Wojnarowski. Yahoo! Sports renowned investigative reporting will be featured on NBC TV, giving fans multiple-platform delivery.

R.I.P. Jenni Rivera
UPDATED: Latin singing and TV star Jenni Rivera died early today in a plane crash in Northern Mexico, Univision and AP confirmed. Univision, which has covered Rivera’s tragic death since the story broke, pre-empted its primetime lineup tonight to air Rivera-themed programming. Aqui y Ahora at 8 PM will feature a segment about the crash, followed by a Jenni Rivera Special and a special edition of entertainment news show Sal y Pimienta entirely dedicated to Rivera.
Cable TV network mun2, which airs docu reality series I Love Jenni that starred Rivera, and Telemundo Media issued a statement that said “Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Rivera family and the families of her team, as we await details”. In honor of Rivera, Telemundo will broadcast a two-hour primetime special at 7 p.m. EST, coast to coast, and mun2 will re-broadcast it at 9 p.m. EST. Mun2 will also air two previously produced I Love Jenni specials at 11 p.m. EST and midnight EST.
Mexico’s secretary of communications and transport Gerardo Ruiz Esparza said authorities found scattered remains of the aircraft in which Rivera and six others were traveling after the plane was reported missing this morning. Esparsa said “all indications” point to this being the plane. There are no survivors, officials said, and the level of destruction is making it difficult to collect physical evidence. … Read More »

Rufus Norris’ ‘Broken’ Takes Best Film Prize At British Independent Film Awards
Rufus Norris’ Broken led the pack of nominees going into the British Independent Film Awards ceremony tonight, but it was Peter Strickland’s Berberian Sound Studio which won the most prizes. Norris’ coming of age tale that debuted in Cannes’ Critics’ Week last year was named Best British Film and also scooped the Best Supporting Actor prize for Rory Kinnear. Best Director went to Strickland for horror pic Berberian Sound Studio for which Toby Jones was also named Best Actor. The movie won four prizes in total, also nabbing kudos for Best Achievement in Production and Best Technical Achievement. Best Actress went to Andrea Riseborough for Shadow Dancer and Olivia Colman scored her second BIFA in a row for her supporting turn in Hyde Park On Hudson. (Colman was named Best Actress last year for Tyrannosaur.) Bart Layton’s The Imposter was named Best Documentary. A full list of winners follows:

LA Film Critics Vote Michael Haneke’s ‘Amour’ Best Pic, Paul Thomas Anderson Best Director For ‘The Master’
Michael Haneke’s Amour was named best picture today in voting by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. The tender study of an elderly couple in their twilight years also was named best picture at Cannes and at the recent European Film Awards. Paul Thomas Anderson was voted best director for The Master, which presents a portrait of a charismatic cult-like figure. The Master also took best actor for Joaquin Phoenix supporting actor for Amy Adams. The LA vote halted earlier momentum for Zero Dark Thirty, which won best picture and directing nods for Kathryn Bigelow from the New York Circle of Film Critics, National Board of Review and the Boston Society of Film Critics. Bigelow was the LA group’s runner-up. The LA critics vote resulted in a best actress tie between Emmanuelle Riva for Amour and Jennifer Lawrence for David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook. Boston Film Critics: ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Best Pic & Director, ‘Lincoln’ Actor & Screenplay
Sony Pictures’ Zero Dark Thirty was named best picture in voting today by the Boston Society of Film Critics. Katheryn Bigelow took the best director trophy for Zero Dark Thirty, which was also honored its editing by William Goldenberg and Dylan Tichenor. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln also took three prizes — Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor, Sally Field for Best Supporting Actress and Tony Kushner for best screenplay. Bigelow’s look at the years-long effort to capture Osama Bin Laden has also won best picture and directing kudos from the New York Circle of Film Critics and the National Board of Review.
