Sunbathing is an activity in which a person exposes himself/herself to direct sunshine. Sunbathing has become one of the most sought after activities these days. People usually choose places which are rich in natural beauty. We often see people sunbathing at beaches, swimming pools, gardens, parks etc. The primary purpose of sunbathing is to tan the skin. Just like every coin has two sides, sunbathing has both positive and negative effects on human health. We can enjoy and make use of positive effects of bathing in the sun only when we expose ourselves in a proper proportion and time to the sun. When the proportion or the time is incorrect, we may have to face the adverse effects of sunbathing.

In the field of medicine, sunbathing is the primary part of heliotherapy (also called climatotherapy) which is undergone by people who lack immunity, vitamin D and those who suffer from psoriasis and skin cancer. The exposure to proper amount of sunlight produces the same effect as exercise, increases strength, energy, tolerance to stress and the ability of blood to absorb and carry oxygen, decreases blood pressure, excessive heart rate, respiratory rate, blood sugar and lactic acid.

Bathing in the sun is one of the natural ways of keeping yourself attractive and good looking. If you have excess cholesterol in your body and you are trying to reduce the cholesterol content in the body, then sunbathing is the best method for it. The most important fact about sunbathing is that it can slow down the process of aging and can even make you look younger by five years! Thus, it acts as an anti-aging agent which makes you look young. The minimum tan of your skin due to exposure to mild sunlight not only makes you look better but also protects your skin from sun burns and other skin issues. Mild sunlight also helps in keeping away zits and acne. However, excessive tan can damage your skin and lead to serious cancer related skin problems.
